The Christians' non-recognition to Muslims

    The Christian stance towards Islam

Christians were not better off than Jews over recognizing Prophet Muhammad. Truth is admitted they were not like Jews as to intrigues and envy. However; eventually, they have not recognized the prophet Muhammad in the manner he did with them.

The stance of Hercules towards Islam

He asked about the condition of the prophet Muhammad verifiably. After a long discussion with Abu-Sufyan[1], he addressed him over prophet Muhammad saying: (If what you have said is true, he will very soon occupy this place underneath my feet and I knew it (from the scriptures) that he was going to appear but I did not know that he would be from you, and if I could reach him definitely, I would go immediately to meet him and if I were with him, I would certainly wash his feet[2]).

After this certainty in the prophethood of Muhammad and the great reverence to him, how Hercules acted?!

Hercules conducted wars one after the other against Prophet Muhammad and Muslims after the prophet's death. He prompted the army of Rome in Mutah and then in Tabuk Battles. Also, he incited the Christian tribes in North Arabea to wage wars against Muslims and regulated many wars after the death of the prophet Muhammad for many successive years.

The stance of Cyrus towards Islam

The stance of Cyrus (of Alexandria) was not better off that of Hercules.

Cyrus stated words declare his credence in the prophet Muhammad, rather, he sent presents to him with Hatib ibn Abi-Balta`ah[3] and when the Muslim armies came to Egypt, he confronted and fought them, though they relieved Egyptians from the Roman occupation which lasted for more than successive sixty years.

The Christians of Najran's stance towards Islam

It is well-known stance, but the point is that they got the fact of his prophethpood, yet, they have not professed he (Muhammad) is a prophet and Messenger of Allah. Moreover, they refused to respond to the prophet's request for them to make Mula`anah (for every party to sincerely invoke the curse of Allah afflicts the liar party) avoiding the wrath[4] of Allah befalls them.

[3]- Hatib ibn Abi-Balta`ah Al-lakhmi. He witnessed the battle of Uhud and Al-Hudaybyah Peacemaking. He died in Medina on year 30 A.H. Allah addressed him as believer (O you who have believed, do not take My enemies and your enemies as allies, extending to them affection while they have disbelieved in what came to you of the truth, having driven out the Prophet and yourselves [only] because you believe in Allah , your Lord. If you have come out for jihad in My cause and seeking means to My approval, [take them not as friends]. You confide to them affection, but I am most knowing of what you have concealed and what you have declared. And whoever does it among you has certainly strayed from the soundness of the way). Review: "Al-Isti`ab" by ibn `Abdil-Barr 1/374 and "Usd Al-Ghabah" by ibn Al-Athir 1/491
