What about the major sins?

Major sins entail certain kind of repentance. If you want to have your sins forgiven in Ramadan and be the most beautiful for you, rather, to have your sins replaced to rewards by Allah; (Except for those who repent, believe and do righteous work. For them Allah will replace their evil deeds with good. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.), Al-Furqan, 70.

Then, you should long for Allah to forgive your major sins, but how?

You should target these major sins by certain repentance. You should recall the major sins you have committed, then to desist from them, and to regret for committing them, and to determine not to commit it any more in the future. If anyone have a grievance upon you due to a major sin you have committed, you must repay him.

However, the main obstacle that hinders the Muslim from observing repentance from the major sins is his conviction of not committing it originally.

He may think that the major sins are only to join others in worship along with Allah, to kill, to steal, to commit illegal sexual intercourse, to drink alcohol, to practice sorcery, and to give back to the enemy and fleeing from the battlefield at the time of fighting.

He may not know that there are so many of his daily habitual actions fall into the greatest of the major sins, like ungratefulness to parents.

Ungratefulness defined by scholars as follows: the son hurts one of his parents with something if directed to other than his parents would be deemed a minor sin, hence it is a major sin if directed to his parents[1].

Lots of people are ungrateful to their fathers and mothers while they are unaware.

Ungratefulness to parents is to violate their commands and prohibitions, travel without their consent, marry without their approval, give preference to spouse and children to them, and to be displeased when obeying them. Also, not to show reverence and respect for them is ungratefulness, ignoring them is ingratitude, debating with them loudly or showing that they are wrong and that the son is more prudent is ungratefulness, and even saying uff and the like words expressing annoyance, or to look askance at them or at one of them.

I know people observe the daily prayers regularly at mosque, but they break ties with their parents and also address them in a way they do not follow with neighbors or friends. They believe themselves as better than their parents in terms of knowledge, intelligence and wealth, so they pay no attention to their advices.
