Saladin, May Allaah Have mercy upon him, focused on Jihaad, and had only one goal, that is, to fight the Crusaders and make the Word of religion superior. Thus, Allaah The Almighty Brought together for him all his dispersed affairs, and Made him fully satisfied, from the depth of his heart, and (what was predestined to him from) this world came to him in willing submission.

But most sultans who came after him made this world their greatest concern, thereupon their affairs dispersed from them, and they no longer knew or distinguished right from wrong, nor truth from falsehood; and sometimes took sides with the Muslims and sometimes with the Crusaders, and sometimes with the Tatars.

For this reason, Allaah The Almighty Encircled them with poverty; some of them died humiliated, some destitute, some homeless, and some in prison. That was the reality of the Muslims throughout the greater part of the time following the death of the great hero Saladin, May Allaah Have mercy upon him.
